Built in 1896 as a Parish House for the nearby Unitarian Church, Unity Hall was heralded at its dedication as "the center of the best social and intellectual adjuncts of the moral and religious life of the community." In a short time Unity Hall became a cultural and community center shared by the church with other groups from Barneveld and its surrounding villages. Just prior to the hall's 100th anniversary in 1995 the Unitarian Church granted The Unity Hall Foundation a 25 year lease on the building. A historical landmark in a village blessed with many, Unity Hall underwent a complete restoration with the goal of preserving its heritage while making it more comfortable and useable. As a result of the hard work and generosity of a caring community, this architectural gem is today beautifully restored and plays host to a wide range of public and private activities and events.
Unity Hall has showcased musical and theatrical performances by artists from around the world and around the corner. An annual favorite is the summer concert featuring the renowned Glimmerglass Opera Young Artists. The Unity Hall stage has also been graced by the Adirondack Ensemble and provided the setting for a number of area theatrical productions. During the summer Unity Hall's patio is the scene for the Summer Concert Series, featuring free performances by area musicians playing everything from bluegrass, rock, classical and popular standards to jazz and country. Throughout the year Unity Hall hosts dinners, dances, meetings, exhibitions, lectures, classes and more. For listing of upcoming events, visit our website.
