Art Hughes requested a meeting with the Town Board members to discuss some budget items. He is requesting a salary of $46,000 for 2007. Art claims men under him made more money than he did for 2005. He has worked for over 25 years and feels his pay should reflect this. Last year he made $41,000. Hughes further stated the Highway Superintendent of Floyd is making $46,000 for his 2nd year. Shirley Poland will review. Scheidelman responded that Art was given a 10% increase for 2006 and is requesting a 12% increase for 2007. Joe Smith arrived at 8 pm. Discussion was held on proposed equipment purchases and replacement. The highway department currently shares the use of the newest loader, 1992, with the Recycling Center. Art told the Town Board members it would be cheaper to put a plow system on the green truck than it would be to put 4 wd on the dump truck. Proposed equipment figures for 2007 are $150,000. Scheidelman stated he didn’t see any large items reduced from the budget. He determined expenses would run close to the 2006 figures. Revenues are projected to run close to the 2006 figures with the exception of possible increases from selective cutting of timber along the Greenbelt and possible FEMA money. Art Hughes estimated the cost of repairs to fix the sidewalls on the bridge in Barneveld at $10,000. The repairs are not structural. Hughes stated concerns regarding emergency power for the Municipal Center and the new Highway Garage. The garage has a generator, but a building is needed to house the generator. Art does not want to see the Town get caught unprepared. Discussion was held on the pros and cons for using salt or a combination of sand and salt. Art will run cost comparisons for salt and sand. Art reiterated a number of ways he has saved the Town money over the years. Scheidelman assured Art he would look at everything in evaluating budget needs. Art left the meeting at 8:40 pm. Discussion was held on wages for Town employees as well as Elected Officials. Scheidelman will put together a chart of wages for the Town Board to review. Discussion was held on Town equipment, outside shed for generator(s) and backup power for the Municipal Center and the new Highway Garage. Scheidelman will put together the proposed budget by October 1st, 2006 for the Town Board to review. Smith reminded the Town Board a decision is needed on Outdoor wood burning furnaces. Scheidelman stated Trenton Assembly Park is the first priority. He will compile a list of topics the Town Board will need to address in the next couple of months. Scheidelman asked the Town Board to look at finding a potential new chairman for the Planning Board in the event Dave Wilcox gets elected in November. Scheidelman asked Shirley Poland if she knew if flyers or programs have been distributed for fall programs through Community Ed. Poland replied the committee is trying to find someone to produce a play. They have a meeting this month and she will update the Town Board. The work session meeting was adjourned at 9:30 pm. Respectfully submitted, Katharine Squire Town Clerk
